Garmisch - Lake Garda

Your first Transalp: This tour is ideal for sporty mountain bikers who cycle regularly and are looking for a combination of alpine cross experience and enjoyment. In five stages with a total of about 360 kilometers and about 7,300 meters of altitude, we cross the main Alpine ridge from the Zugspitz village of Grainau near Garmisch to Lake Garda.
You are an experienced e-mountain biker and regularly tour off paved roads in your spare time. Even though this Transalp is one of the most popular alpine crossings and we have some support through our e-bikes, it is definitely a sporty travel experience with five full days in the saddle. The route runs mainly on paved and unpaved bike paths as well as side roads. Also easy single trails (S0 - S1) with roots and small steps, steep gravel roads in ascents and descents as well as short pushing passages are part of this Transalp. Safety and confidence in handling the e-bike are a prerequisite. Stage lengths of up to 100 kilometers and ascents of up to 1,300 meters in altitude require conscientious preparation, despite the support of the e-drive, in order to be able to enjoy the tour in a relaxed manner. Your e-bike should be in perfect technical condition. A bike check in a workshop of your confidence before the trip is recommended. The route is also suitable for e-bike hardtails. A full-suspension e-bike naturally offers more comfort and riding safety. Off-road MTB studded tires are mandatory. We advise against luggage racks on this tour.
Landscape fans will enjoy views of the Zugspitze massif, Lake Resia, the Val Venosta apple orchards, the Brenta Dolomites and the beauty of Lake Molveno. Those interested in culture will pull out their cameras at Fernstein Castle, medieval Glurns, Plamort Boden or alpine-Mediterranean Merano. Culinary delights will not be neglected on this tour either. From bacon, cheese and Schlutzkrapfen to pizza, pasta and tiramisu, everything is on offer.
From Grainau near Garmisch we cycle along the Eibsee and via the Hochthörle Hütte to Ehrwald. Via a panoramic high trail we pass the Weißensee and continue to the Fernpass, enjoy the descent to Nassereith and cycle via Imst through the Inntal to Nauders. On the Plamort plateau, high above the Reschen Pass, we cross the border into Italy. We follow the cycle path through the famous apple orchards in the South Tyrolean Vinschgau region to Merano. From there we reach Cles via the Gampen Pass - at 1518 meters the highest pass of the tour. The last day takes us past the fantastically beautiful Lake Molveno to Lake Garda.

5 pm Meeting for dinner together in Grainau near Garmisch. Getting to know each other, bike check, discussion of the overall tour based on maps.
From Grainau we start along the Eibsee in the direction of Hochthörle Hütte. Here we can look forward to our first descent: over single trails and speed asphalt down to the Austrian town of Ehrwald. After the lunch break we crank in beautiful ups and downs along the panoramic path above Biberwier to the Weißensee and over the Fernpass to the Fernsteinsee Castle. Afterwards we cycle along the old Roman path Via Claudia Augusta to Imst.
From Imst we follow the Inntalradweg via Schönwies to Landeck. There our ascent to the Fließer Platte begins. Like the Romans once did, we push our bikes over the rocky passage, where wagon tracks can still be seen in the historically rich soil. Beautiful single trails lead above the Inn Valley further south to Fließ. Back in the Inn Valley, we crank the next few kilometers on the bike path upstream to the Swiss border. Our last climb takes us over eleven hairpin bends to the Norbertshöhe near Nauders.
Today, one highlight follows the next: First, we climb 700 meters in altitude over the Reschenpass to the Plamort plateau and reach the Panzersperren on beautiful trails. There, gigantic distant views down into the Vinschgau Valley, in the direction of Ortler and Lake Reschen await us. Over a well rideable forest road we roll down to the Reschensee and make our way to South Tyrol. In the picturesque old town of Glurns we enjoy a first Italian cappuccino and can charge our batteries. On the Etschtal cycle path we ride through the apple orchards of Vinschgau to Merano. We know many an insider tip off the bike path to add a little more variety to the route or to sample South Tyrolean delicacies, depending on your mood.
Today the Gampen Pass lies ahead of us. First we warm up to Lana. From here, a small side road with a great view of Merano leads to the mountain village of Völlan. The beginning is steep, but thanks to the support of the e-drive well doable. Behind Völlan we ride on wonderfully shady forest paths to the top of the pass. In the idyllic little village "Unsere liebe Frau im Walde" we have lunch in one of the small inns and enjoy the views down into the Val di Non. We follow the "Rankipino", a beautifully laid out path for mountain bikers. The varied route inspires with distant views and riding fun. Passing Lago di Santa Giustina, the road leads us to Cles, the main town of Val di Non.
One of the most beautiful stages! Spectacular, the route of the "Dolomiti di Brenta Bike" leads us at the foot of the original Brenta Mountains to the picturesque Lake Molveno. A 2.4 kilometer tunnel, which can only be used by hikers and bikers, leads us to a great high trail. Similar to the South Tyrolean Waalwege, this leads along above the valley without any significant elevation changes. We enjoy the easy single trails and great panoramic views. On a varied path, notorious for several short concrete ramps, it finally goes uphill to Andalo. Another short descent and we're at Lake Molveno, where we take an extended rest on the lakeshore. After the lunch break we ride on beautiful panoramic paths into the valley of the Sarche. After a brisk descent we set course for the historic town of Arco. From here it is only a few kilometers that separate us from Lake Garda. A jump into the lake and then we pop the champagne corks!
