Garmisch - Lake Garda

The tour leads from Garmisch through the Inn Valley further over the Reschenpass into the Vinschgau Valley and through the Valley of the Etsch to Lake Garda. With its 2900 m ascent and about 363 kilometers in 5 stages this tour is ideal for Transalp beginners who want to take things a little easier.
This is an ideal Transalp for beginners mainly on well established cycling routes. Requested: A basic fitness and fun with mountainbiking.
For landscape lovers: Zugspitzmassif, Reschenpass, the apple orchards of the Vinschgau Valley, Kalterer See, Monte Bondone and last but not least Lago di Garda. For culture lovers: The romantic castle Fernstein, the medieval town of Glurns, the Mediterranean spa town of Merano and the historic city Trento. For culinary delights: A culinary journey through the Vinschgau Valley and the wine-growing area of the Kalterer See.
From Garmisch we ride over the panoramic mountain highway to Ehrwald. Passing the Weissensee we cycle further to the Fernpass and enjoy the downhill to Nassereith and then from Imst through the Inn Valley to Nauders. We follow the Roman Road Via Claudia over the Reschenpass and further through the Vinschgau Valley to Merano. From there we cycle towards the Kalterer See, from here to Trento and then to our final destination Lake Garda.

Details & stages
05:00 pm: In the evening we meet up for dinner in Grainau. Get to know each other, bikecheck, tour preparation and trip briefing based on maps.
From Grainau we start along the Eibsee towards the Hochthörlehütte. Here we can be excited about our first downhill: On single trails and speedy asphalt we roll down to Ehrwald. After lunch we cycle nicely up and down along the panoramic trail above Biberwier to Weissensee and along the old Roman road Via Claudia Augusta to Imst. There is a lot to discover along the way: Castle Fernstein close to Nassereith and the Kneipp spring in the Gurgltal world before Imst.
From Imst we ride via the old pilgrim way traily to Landeck. The trails of the Fliesser Alps await us. From Prutz we mainly stay on the cycle path and take a break in Pfunds to recharge the batteries. The ascent up to Nauders is challenging and the batteries will be exhausted. Concluding the final stage down to Nauders a rough but playful trail is awaiting us.
oday one highlight chases the other: First we cycle 500 m ascent over the Reschenpass partly on beautiful trails up to the plateau of Plamort. Here we can enjoy fantastic views down to the Vinschgau Valley, towards the Ortler massif and of course to the Reschensee. On a forest path which is in good condition and on flowy trails we roll down to the Reschensee and start our way to Italy. We take a break in Glurns for our first Italian cappuccino. Here we also recharge our batteries. After that we tackle the trails of the Vinschgau Valley. We leave the cycle path again and again to ride one or the other trail. Shortly before we cycle to Merano we take a seat in a gondola which takes us 800 m ascent up. We cycle a few meters up where a flowy trail leads us dream-like down.
Today the Gampenpass lies ahead of us! We cycle smoothly to Lana. From here a small street leads in parallel to the mountain pass road up to Völlan. The first meters of ascent are quite steep and exhausting but it gets flatter and after Völlan we ride on wonderful shady forest paths to the top of the pass. In the idyllic town “Unsere liebe Frau im Walde” we take a break and enjoy the views down to the Val di Non. Since last year there is a great trail descent into the valley. Along Lago di Santa Giustina our way leads us to Cles, the main town of the the Val di Non and our final destination for today.
This stage offers the most beautiful scenic views of our Transalp. On top of that, the technical highlight of this week is on. Along the trails of the Dolomiti Brenta we cycle countless kilometers on fantastic trails. A collection of trails! The few short steep ramps are no problem for our E-Bikes. A flowtrail descent leads us down to the Molvenosee where we take a break at the lakefront. After that we ride on beautiful hiking paths to Ranzo and after a speedy downhill to the historic city Arco. From here it’s only a “hop” to the Lago and we can pop the corks.
After breakfast we depart with the bus back to Grainau.
