Tegernsee - Pustertal Valley

This tour leads us across beautiful forest tracks and country lanes from Tegernsee into the Puster Valley. With about 3200 m of ascent and 183 kilometers this tour is suitable for beginners.
Apart from a few sections where you have to push your bike the whole tour is easily passable with the bike. The downhill passages are quite easy and can be mastered by all mountainbikers.
Landscapes: Wonderful single-trails upwards to the Pfitscher Joch with a view to the area of the Grenzkamm, wonderful views of the main ridge of the Alps. South Tyrolean flair from Sterzing.
This tour leads from Tegernsee into the Valepp and then gently sloping down to the Inn Valley. Further we ride through the Zillertal Valley and at the Pfitscher Joch over the main ridge of the Alps to Sterzing and further to Mühlbach into the Puster Valley.

Details & stages
06:00 pm: In the evening we meet up for dinner at Tegernsee. Get to know each other, bikecheck, tour preparation and trip briefing based on maps.
We start our tour from Kreuth past the imperial house through the Brandenberger Ache to Brixlegg. In the small town Rattenberg we have a coffee to cycle the last few kilometers along the Ziller to Stumm.
We cycle further through the Zillertal to Mayrhofen. Here the Zillertal cycle route ends and we head for the Schlegeis reservoir. Following side streets we cycle steady uphill over Ginzling to the restaurant Breitlahner. From Ginzling we can switch to a nice hiking trail which runs parallel to the street. Then we continue to cycle moderately further on the street towards the enormous dam of the Schlegeis reservoir. In the late afternoon we arrive at the Dominikushütte and can go for a walk or enjoy the rustical alpine hut ambience and the unique mountain view.
Today the Pfitscher Joch awaits us, one of the most famous crossings of the main Alpine ridge. A hiking trail winds its way from the reservoir up to the Pfitscher Joch-Hut (2275 m). The way is partially passable but we have to be prepared for a few parts where we have to hop off our bikes. The beautiful alpine scenery rewards our efforts. Arrived at the hut, we also finally arrived in Italy and celebrate our border crossing with a creamy cup of cappuccino. We then ride on a gravel descent that just makes fun down into the Pfitscher Valley, the „sunny side“ of the Alps. In Sterzing we allow ourselves an ice-cream before we cycle the last kilometers along the cycling route to Mühlbach. The climate is very mild and we can celebrate our Transalp in the evening on the church square.
After breakfast we depart with the bus back to Tegernsee.
