Description
Garmisch - Lake Como
Facts
This tour is a beginner's road bike transalp through the beautiful Austrian and Swiss mountain landscape with end point in Italy at Lake Como. Equipped with a book and GPS tracks, you will cycle across the Alps on your own. We take over the travel organization. For your own safety, you can register for an individual Transalp with a minimum of two people.
Requirements
We assume a good basic condition. The climbs are spectacular, but well rideable with a road bike.
Highlights
Transalp feeling without risk. This tour is doable with a good basic condition and some training kilometers in the legs.
For connoisseurs: There are enough opportunities for breaks with culture and coffee - along the Inn, in the beautiful Engadin with Silvaplana and St. Moritz and at Lake Como.
Route
From Garmisch you drive around the Zugspitze and down into the Inn valley. Follow this valley to the beginning of the Swiss National Park. You will cross it briefly and arrive in the high alpine Livigno. Over the Forcula di Livigno and the Bernina Pass you descend into the Engadine to Pontresina and St. Moritz. Along the lakes of the Upper Engadine you'll reach the Maloja Pass and from there it's downhill to Lake Como.

Wednesday
Stage 1 - From Grainau to Prutz: approx. 120 km; approx. 1250 hm
We start from Grainau near Garmisch via Mittenwald into the Leutasch valley. From here, you'll roll down a wonderfully long descent into the Inn Valley. Past Imst you follow the Inn via Landeck to Prutz, the final stop for today.
Thursday
Stage 2 - From Prutz to Livigno: approx. 105 km; approx. 2100 hm
Today you follow the Inn upstream. You will ride along small roads parallel to the main road and through small villages in the Lower Engadine. In Scuols or Zernez you can stop for a bite to eat before heading into the Swiss National Park towards the Ofen Pass. A shuttle will take you through a tunnel. From there you have a totally straight road in front of you, protected by a gallery, on which even the professionals like to train.
Friday
Stage 3 - From Livigno to Lake Como: approx. 125 km; approx. 1150 hm
You roll in, but soon you're heading up to the Forcula di Livigno. A short descent and you are already at the second pass ascent to the Bernina. Here you have a great view of the 4000m peaks of the Upper Engadine, right at the foot of the Palüs. But on the descent from Bernina to Pontresina the panorama gets even better. It continues past the Upper Engadine lakes to the Maloja Pass. You will descend this pass on a wonderful, endless descent and will soon reach your long-awaited destination, Lake Como. In the evening you can celebrate your Transalp with a typical dinner.
