Description

Garmisch - Merano

Steep ascents and fantastic views on the first day, two wonderful trails on the second day and as the crowning achievement the Uina Canyon and the Sesvenna Plateau. And finally, we can enjoy ice-cream in the Mediterranean Merano. Many highlights await us during this Quickie.
A moderately difficult tour with simple and well passable trails. Some driving technique skills and a good fitness are recommended.
For landscape lovers: Zugspitzmassif, Uina Canyon and the apple orchards in the Vinschgau. For culinary delights: A culinary journey from bacon to cheese and Schlutzkrapfen.
From Garmisch we start our tour past the Zugspitze over the Marienbergjoch towards Imst. Through the valley of the Inn we cycle up to a moorland lake above Nauders, then on a fantastic downhill heading to the Reschenpass. If the conditions are ideal we cycle into the Uina canyon the next day. The high alpine landscape of the Sesvenna Plateau is in direct contrast to the ice-cream served under palm trees in the evening in Merano. As an alternative the Plamort between Nauders and Reschen with its newly shaped Dreiländer-trails is no less attractive. It offers an unforgettable view down to the Reschensee and over the whole Upper Vinschgau to the Ortler.
Details & stages
5:00 pm: In the evening we meet up for dinner in Grainau. Get to know each other, bikecheck, tour preparation and trip briefing based on maps.
From Grainau we ride past the picturesque Eibsee located beneath the Zugspitze. We cycle further up to the Hochthörlehütte to Tyrol. Great trails and speedy asphalt lead us to Ehrwald. Up and down we cycle via the Panorama Trail to Biberwier and over Marienbergjoch further to Nassereith. A beautiful singletrail at the end of the downhill makes you want more. Along the old Roman road Via Claudia Augusta we pedal into the Gurgltal near by Imst.
From Imst we ride via the old pilgrim way to the beautifully situated Kronburg. From here, a casual trail brings us down to Landeck. After the ascent up to the Fliesser Platte we cycle on flowy trails and with a great panorama back into the Inn valley. Along the Transalp classic Via Claudia we cycle to the Swiss border. At the end of the day a robust ascent leads us to a beautiful moorland lake. The downhill trail to Nauders is the absolute top class!
Today one highlight chases the other: First a nice downhill singletrail to Switzerland. From Sur En we cycle into the unspoilt and romantic Uina Canyon. The high alpine landscape around the Sesvenna hut is incomparable beautiful. Once arrived in Glurns we can allow ourselves a break with a good conscience with ice-cream to smoothly roll down the last few kilometers to Merano. Alternative: In case of not optimal conditions we cycle to the Plamorter Boden and reward ourselves with gigantic views high above the Reschenpass. A nice singletrail leads us to a beautiful viewpoint onto the Ortler-massiv followed by a great downhill on the new Dreiländer-Trails to the Reschensee, the first Italian cappuccino in the medieval Glurns and finally the best singletrails aside the apple plantations through the Upper Vinschgau.
After breakfast we depart with the bus back to Grainau.
