Description

Garmisch - Lake Como

This alpine crossing through the beautiful Austrian and Swiss mountain scenery with our tour goal Lake Como is suitable for beginners.
A basic physical condition is required. The breathtaking climbs are easily passable with a roadbike.
Transalp feeling without risk. This tour is doable with a good basic condition and some training kilometers in the legs. For connoisseurs: There are enough opportunities for breaks with culture and coffee - along the Inn, in the beautiful Engadin with Silvaplana and St. Moritz and at Lake Como.
From Garmisch we drive around the Zugspitze and down into the Inn valley. We follow this valley to the beginning of the Swiss National Park. We cross this briefly and arrive in the high alpine Livigno. Over the Forcula di Livigno and the Bernina Pass we descend into the Engadine to Pontresina and St. Moritz. Along the Upper Engadine lakes we meet the Maloja Pass and from there we go downhill to Lake Como.

Details & stages
6 pm: Meeting in Grainau near Garmisch for dinner, bike check and getting to know each other. Discussion of the overall tour based on maps.
We start from Grainau near Garmisch via Mittenwald into the Leutasch valley. From here we roll down a wonderfully long descent into the Inn Valley. Past Imst we follow the Inn via Landeck to Prutz, our final stop for today.
Today we follow the Inn upstream. Again and again we ride on small roads parallel to the main road and pass through small villages in the Lower Engadine. In Scuols or Zernez we have lunch before we drive into the Swiss National Park towards Ofenpass. A shuttle takes us through a tunnel. From there we have a totally straight road in front of us, protected by a gallery, where even the professionals like to train.
We roll in, but soon we're heading up to the Forcula di Livigno. A short descent and we are already at the second pass ascent to the Bernina. Here we have a great view of the 4000m peaks of the Upper Engadine, right at the foot of the Palüs. But on the descent from Bernina to Pontresina the panorama gets even better. We continue past the Upper Engadine lakes to the Maloja Pass. We descend this on a wonderfully endless descent and soon reach our long-awaited destination, Lake Como. In the evening we celebrate our Transalp with a typical dinner.
After breakfast transfer back to Grainau.
