Description

Dolomite Panorama

A round trip through the Dolomites with panoramas of the extra class. More scenery, passes and unique panoramas does not go in 4 cycling days in the light level.
The tours are aimed at pleasure cyclists with a little bit of fitness. In some passages it is a little steeper, but we approach most of the passes via the flat side, which is why we classify the tour in the Light difficulty level. The tours are rather short and have relatively few vertical meters in relation to the number of passes. There should be enough time to enjoy the panoramic views of the Alps.
Drei Zinnen, Cristallo Gruppe, Tofanen, Heiligkreuzkofel, Sella Stock, Marmolada, Latemar, Rosengarten, Schlern und am Ende Geisler, Sarntaler Alpen and the beautiful old town of Brixen.
From Mühlbach we cycle through the Puster Valley to Bruneck and past the Three Peaks over the Passo Tre Croci to Cortina. From there, the next day we cycle over four more or less demanding passes to Arabba. The third stage takes us over the Passo Pordoi and a rapid descent to Canazai and from there through the Fassa Valley to the Karer Pass. As a last small hurdle, the Niger Pass lies between us and Völs am Schlern. On the last day we roll along the edge of the Schlern to Kastelruth and over the Panider Sattel to St. Ulrich and from there into the Eisacktal. Here Bressanone with its beautiful village square awaits us before we make the last kilometers back to Mühlbach.
Details & stages
6 pm: Meeting in Mühlbach in Pustertal for dinner, getting to know each other and bike check. Discussion of the overall tour based on maps.
On the Pustertalradweg we roll in slightly ascending and undulating until Bruneck, then it becomes a little more hilly until Toblach. Here we turn south into the Höhlensteintal valley. Our first steeper climb awaits us on the ascent to Lake Misurina. Wonderful views of the Three Peaks and a beautiful mountain world await us. It is not far to the highest point of today's tour, the Passo Tre Croci is about to be climbed. Here we have a frontal view of the Tofanen. A speedy descent brings us to Cortina.
Leisurely steep we drive up to the Passo Falzarego, for which we have to sweat, at the next pass I'm not so sure whether it really challenges us. A good kilometer and about 90 meters in altitude further, pass number 3 of today, the Passo di Valparola, is waiting for us. Then it's a moderate downhill to La Villa, with the Pralongia and the Sella peaks on the left and the Heiligkreuzkofel on the right. From La Villa the route goes slightly uphill again to Covara and continues over the Passo Campolongo to Arabba. If you haven't seen enough, you can take the cable car in Arabba up to Porta Vescovo for the Marmolada view and, if necessary, a hike along the Bindelweg.
Directly from the hotel we drive today to the ascent to Passo Pordoi. Here we see centrally on the steep Sella rock faces. A very depressing monument to the fallen of the mountain war here 100 years ago should also be seen. The descent with its many serpentines to Canazei can be very speedy. Through the Fassa Valley we ride mostly on the bike path along the river. Then it goes into the next climb over the Karerpass. On the right we can already see the Catinaccio and with every meter of altitude we see more of the Latemar. As an encore today we get the Niger Pass, which we roll over without many meters of altitude in a few kilometers. At the foot of the Catinaccio it then goes steeper downhill to Tiers and on to Völs am Schlern.
At the foot of the Sciliar we drive to Siusi and further to Castelrotto. Over the Panider Sattel we continue to Ortisei. Here we drive through the pedestrian zone and do some sightseeing in this second fashionable sports town on this tour. Via Lajen and a beautiful winding road we continue to Gufidaun and down into the Eisack valley. Here we cycle along the cycle path to Bressanone and make sure to take a break at the beautiful cathedral square. We follow the Eisack cycle path north and shortly before Franzensfeste we join the Pustertal cycle path, which we then follow to Mühlbach.
