Garmisch - Lake Como

This tour leads from Garmisch over partly high-alpine passes to Livigno, St. Moritz and ends at Lago di Como. This tour offers sporty challenges, routes with a high fun factor and stunning high-alpine landscapes. That’s everything one might wish if not even more for an Alpine cross! The alpine highlights are strung together likes pearls.
An optimal transalp for all bikers who are super fit at both, uphill and downhill. About 2500 training miles and good driving technique skills would be advantageous. This tour offers you the possibility to switch to the light tour which runs in parallel.
High-alpine pass trails with flowy trails and super-panorama. High-mountain landscapes and Annapurna-feeling that make you feel dizzy: Zugspitzarena, Fimberpass, the Swiss National Park, the bike Eldorado Livigno, the 4000+ m peaks of the glaciated Bernina massif, the beautiful blue Upper Engadine lakes around St. Moritz, the original Bergell and our dream destination Lake Como.
From Garmisch we ride quite smoothly to the Tyrolean Zugspitzarena with its picturesque mountain lakes. We cross the Marienbergjoch to roll into the Inn Valley and after a short excursion into the Pitztal Valley along trails to Landeck. Further into the Paznaun Valley towards Ischgl and to Switzerland. Over remote high-alpine passes we get to Livigno and from there over the most beautiful routes of the Alta Rezia area to Lago di Como.

05:00 pm: In the evening we meet up for dinner in Grainau. Get to know each other, bikecheck, tour preparation and trip briefing based on maps.
From Grainau we start along the Loisach towards Tyrol. On remote paths and through a valley which reminds you of the Canadian wilderness we get to the picturesque Plansee. A great varied path leads us to Biberwier. Over the Marienbergjoch we get to Nassereith. A flowy trail at the end of the downhill makes you want more. We cycle smoothly along the old Roman road Via Claudia Augusta to Imst.
From Imst we ride uphill into the Pitztal Valley. At the Gacher Blick we enjoy the view down to the Inn Valley 800 meters below. Enormous! Great trails lead us down to Landeck. It goes uphill again – moderate and steady – always with a great panorama. Over the Paznauner valley trail we cycle to Ischgl. If we are well in time we should not miss this additional option: With the mountain railway up to the Ischgl border comb. The trails are spectacular, the view to the 2871 meters high Greitspitze are incredible and the downhill fun back to Ischgl hardly can be topped. It’s hardly worth mentioning that we spend the night in a super hotel with a wellness area.
From Ischgl the day starts straight sporty with a steep climb up to the lonely located Heidelberger Hut. We already left behind the timberline. With awe we look to the Fimberpass at a height of 2600 meters, whose barren and rough landscape creates the impression of following the Annapurna-route (or a sacred mountain path) in the Himalayas. On a beautiful single trail that has no equal, we leave this high-alpine region and take our time in the rustic Lower Engadine Griosch for a cup of cappuccino and carrot cake. Besides..today you should be free from giddiness. The two suspension bridges in the Val Sinestra are almost as dizzying as the ghost stories about the venerable spa house at the end of our wonderful trail descend.
From Scuol we cycle on the paths of the Swiss National Park Marathon through the lonely Val S-Charl and over the Pass da Costainas into the Val Müstair. Along varied trails with panorama onto the Ortler Mountain Group we reach the Ofenpass. Lonely plateaus, deep blue isolated mountain lakes and almost endless flowy trails let us forget everyday life. Marmots are whistling along the way. Who thinks it can’t get better than that should wait..After the steep uphill to the Alp Trela we get to the Passo di Val Trela where a great downhill adventure awaits us at the end of the day. Impossible to describe, you must have experienced it! The icing on the cake is the self-made ice-cream at the Latteria di Livigno. Delicious!
Livigno is the capital of the mountain bike! We could notice this the day before. Today we cycle over beautiful perfectly prepared trails with high-alpine panorama towards the Bernina-Pass. At the Forcola di Livigno we enjoy the typical Italian specialties before we cross the Swiss border with a view to the glaciers of the Bernina-massif. Great single trails lead us to Pontresina. The last kilometers along the lakes of the Upper Engadine we roll smoothly and maybe risk a courageous jump into the clear water to crown our tour!
We ride in a wild up and down to the Malojapass. Here we can cycle up to the smallest of the Upper Engadine lakes, the Lägh da V´Cavloc. This lake is beautifully situated in a valley basin surrounded by a few 3000m peaks. On a rock which is directly located at a beautiful lake there is a hut, a real insider’s tip! You did not have a break with such a gigantic view before. After the break we first ride down to the Maloja-Pass and then as a final of this Transalp through the sleepy Bergell to Italy. The climate becomes noticeable Mediterranean while we ride downwards through chestnut forests and rustic villages to Chiavenna. After a delicious ice-cream in the pedestrian zone it is only a few kilometers to our final destination. If we are in time we know a spectacular insider’s tip for a legendary final! Have a surprise!
After breakfast we depart with the bus back to Grainau.
